What can a decent fun loving guy with a bit of free time on his hands do on the weekend in this city man? There is nothing. Clubbing bores me, the music is too loud and crappy, and I’m not too into drinking. I don’t like the high. Movies keep showing for months at a time and only in two or so cinemas at that and the movies showing right now are hopeless. (And in case you're hoping to go see Australia, which i hear is coming to MC, don’t bother; utter waste of time)
We are an entertainment starved population. We can go to the beach, we can hang out at MC, we can hangout at excel world or we can get together with a few friends and throw a 'session' as they are called.
There was a time in my teens, when i used to spend ages simply wandering around with a couple friends on Saturdays in MC doing nothing. Walking into shops, checking out the latest CD's, playing a coupla songs, annoying the guy in the shop who thinks we're gonna buy it, making up some excuse as to why we can’t buy it, and walking out again and repeating the process somewhere else. Classes were at Shakti Institute, opposite Bamba flats, after classes we'd make a beeline for the Dosa shop, whack some Indian junk food, barely manage to pay the bill, and walk to MC.
MC however, does not seem all that appealing to me anymore. Excel world is dried up, and the last time i went there was in broad daylight on a weekday to take some surreptitious pictures of a competitor set up. Met up with a few friends at the Keg another day, that place was packed to the rooftop.
Call me a stoner, but there seems to be nothing better to do in this city. Its dried up and discarded like...or maybe it’s ‘cause im just naturally bored with everything by default these days, feeling very dispassionate. Or maybe everyone else is out there having fun and no one has told me where the REAL party is happening, the bastards!

you seem to conveniently forget how you clumsily almost knocked into a waiter already laden with two heavy buckets of "sambaar" :P..i mean once is a mistake! but the amount of times u may have done it!
er..i remember nothing of the sort! oh wait, wasn't it you who used to always insist on 'paying for yourself' but always ended up a few bucks short? O_o
hm...kareoke? :D
take up a hobby? instrument? language? do your assignment? :P
take a bus to galle?
Dee- Karaoke?? hmmm.. er..no thanks.
Dee- yes well the assignment wouldnt be ENTERTAINMENT, and i dont havethe patience for a new language or instrument, need to relax no exercise brain cells!
Dee - Yes well sure that works, but i meant, in the city of Colombo.
Go throw rocks at cops from rooftops.
Hey dude,
Go to Liberty Plaza 8th floor. They have some real stuff if you kow what I mean :-) A little expensive though !!!
Jerry - but what if they like, look up and see me?
N B - hmmm, thirty seconds of bliss for half my salary eh, HMMM..
oops..heh heh..i remembered something else which would give you a few red cheeks, but ill refrain from giving out secrets lest it backfires heh :)
Run up the escalators in MC. Only, be careful to choose the ones that run down.
Trust me, it's fun!
When is this beach thing you speak of anyway?
Also, 30 seconds?
HMMM indeed.
Auf- yeah lets leave out all the gory details out the public limelight heh. safer that way.:D
Sach - i'll put that down on my to-do list.. gotta do it when the crowd's thinning. and did u know that there is only ONE escalator that runs down? they encourage people to go UP at MC. Marketing ploy i bet..
Jerry - soon i guess, will inform you of the place and time via infra-transit communicado mechanizm
I do agree that Colombo lacks the free flow of entertainment that other cities might have. But it makes Colombians (?) more creative.
POOL go play pool! Queens is pretty cheap so is Hotshots (i think) at MC, if you want nice and classy the Echelon is very nice. Oh and u don't need to KNOW how to play it! Much more entertaining when u don't!
Karaoke is fun only if you're with a few ppl who can actually sing. Unless you're drunk and don't mind making a fool of yourself!
Oh and Shisha is a fun and relaxing thing to do too! Pity Zetters rooftop is no more, but Amrit and Galadari should be still functioning.
oh and NB - Liberty plaza 8th floor? Thats the penthouses right? with a great view! Never knew 'that' kinda stuff goes on there..
ps: you were one of those weird guys loitering at MC? *gasp*
I avoided/avoid that place because of that/you?/them
ps2: ur quite the regular on kotu eh?
L_M
It a dead city, nothing to do and nowhere to go.
Someone (indi I think) had said the beach restaurants on Mt beach were worth checking out, that sounds ok but no real place to hang around.
Let's go bungee jumping off the Kelaniya bridge over the weekend!
Not too sure where we could get bungee cords on short notice... We could string rubber bands together instead, I'm sure they'll be just as good.
Oh god. Can relate a little too well.
I'm sick and tired of hanging out at the over-priced, pretentious, coffee joints and of the same old stuff over and over again.
Bleurghh. A change of scene would definitely be welcome!
If your into Rugger, the Club 10 a sides are on this weekend at CR. Can catch them with a Cold one!
Its raining bro and since the weather is bad too these days how about dancing in the rain while putting on some soothing music
(I know its crazy and it would make u sick but i guess its worth it and is awesomely fun =D)
Cheers !
L_M I’m sorry for preventing ur visits to MC on behalf of all MC dudes in ski caps and deck shoes. But i belonged to the shorts and rubber slipper variety. Thanks for the suggestions.. Weekend was alright..
Jack - yeah man. but the beach always works i guess
Messiah - yeah maybe when our necks are feeling a little better haha.. and well, hmmm im not too sure the rubber bands will hold.
Gutter - you can say that again!
Chaarmax - couldn't make it man. Though i had a friend playing. Hope you enjoyed it!
Disease - i dunno bout the music or the dancing bro but a walk in the pouring rain with no tuk tuks available along a flooded road all the way home is a great experience in my book..
