First, a bit about 'blogstitution'

You know how your brain gets this itching feeling as if it wants to spurt out something intellectual but can't actually put a single certain neuron onto it? So there are varous little ideas and thoughts running like random preschoolers during lunch break around the insides of your mind, and you're like a kidnnapper waiting with the chloroform and the getaway vehicle trying to decide which kid looks rich enough to make you an easy coupla million. Or in this case get you some interested readers.

Fuck it, we are all blogstitutes, its your fault for coming and reading this blog anyways. You have corrupted my pure soul. Having your blog exposed to readers automatically makes you a blogstitute. People just go holier-than-thou on the more crass attempts at it. Society is fucked up, but as long as its subtle then everything is cool.

Aren't we all just prostittutes for attention? I mean take blogging aside, all we do is sell ourselves man. By working, i am essentially selling my capabilities for money but ok, lets give this term a bit of street cred and take it in terms of what is usually defined as prostitution that is, selling your body for sex.

So we're essentially talking blogging without morals, without scruples with the intention of purely generating hits, like putting up a title that reads 'Anarkali and Duminda sex tape' with a link to a video of soft core porn or something. Nothing sells like sex by the way. Im sure viceunversa would agree with me on that one. I was looking through my search engine hits today and almost 90% of the searches came thru sex related keywords. Some surprising ones in there too hyok hyok.

But i DYgress, getting back to the point of blogstitution. What IS blogstitution? i believe Mr. RD coined the term, but what does it MEAN?

According to RD, blogstitution is when you talk about sex or something like that just to get your blog more hits.

I think most bloggers who care about the hit counter are pretty much prostitutes for attention though.
Meaning, one of the main priorities is to pick a topic that everyone's going to read and comment on.
(Guilty as charged over here!)

ah! i was waiting for that one.. lol. but how can you judge posts that try 'just to get your blog more hits' without being a bit judgemental and subjective then?

You and your subjective mumbo-jumbo! =P

Well, some are so dead transparent that their post are like bright neon signs blinking: "Attention-seeker in the building!"

sound points dude! :D yes, arent we all guilty of blogstitution? but then again, depending on the type of blog, isnt that the whole point of blogging?

granted, some blogs are personal diaries that are meant for the writer to store up and for the occasional reader to comment on.. others are MEANT to get a point across and generate interest, hence they HAVE to 'sell their wares'...

of course, as Meg/Mom/Cyanide/Puppet/watever says, some ppl just crave attention.... :D

What was the strangest search term that led someone to your blog?

I've had some bizarre ones!

I know RD has posted on this subject before...

@ Gehan-

I don't agree with you entirely. Some of the attention-seeking bloggers don't really blog about anything of substance... Unless, that is, if you consider wanking, intercourse and sexual organs- the height of interesting discussion.

To boot they haven't got adverts on their blog, which means they aren't being remunerated for the traffic they haul in.

So why? And especially if they are anonymous... Why would they write up drivel? The only explanation I can offer is that "attention-seekingness" flows in veins. I don't think it's a personality flaw...

Anyway...er...I've noticed that there's always some contention in my comments that are in response to yours, so just so you know- It's just my opinion... no hard feelings, right? =D

@ Anonymous: NO! I DENY! I REFUSE TO LISTEN TO U!

:D

ok seriously, point taken.. some ppl draw attention to absolute nonsense.. but there are some blogs, like whacky's, that have some real heavy content and that deserve watever 'publicity' they get.. :)

...and then there are blogs like mine which usually have some idea of what they want to post, but end up making it into something people might want to read.

;)

Mom/cyanide/meg/ Thepuppet/eer whatever:p good points, but there is is still a fine line between 'crap' and 'good stuff to read'. can be taken either way. as can posts about sex or masturbation. depends on the perspective. so why should only certain people get to judge who the attention seekers are?

Gehan - doesn't everyone just crave attention man? its built into us from day one eh. and if not in the blogsphere, then somewhere else? taken in absolutely objective terms 'attention' and 'nonsense' are meaningless words. but sound points yourself..still think you should ontinued ur dark streak tere though:D

Sean - some crazy stuff man.. mostly to do with 'boys eating girls'. maybe i should rethink my post titles haha

TheWhacksteR said...

*gehan - that should read 'continued ur dark streak there'

Jerry - yeah i think its your unique inbuilt PR capabilities

lol.. the darkside hasnt gone anywhere.. i shall be back!
